Harbor’s Vision and Values

“Seek the peace and the prosperity of the city…Pray to the Lord for it.” (Jer.29:7)

Our Vision

To see our neighbors, neighborhoods and nations renewed by the Gospel.

Matthew 22:37-39 – Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Matthew 28:18-20 – “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Romans 1:16 – The Gospel “is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes”.

2 Corinthians 4:16 – “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”

Our Values

Gospel-Centered

We are committed to preaching and teaching the Grand Story of Redemption presented in God’s Word. The good news of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is the foundation and center of experiencing God’s renewing grace.

Luke 24:44-47 – He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”  Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.  He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

1 Corinthians 1:22-24; 2:2 – Jews demand miraculous signs [power] and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God… For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

Relational Renewal

We are committed to building intentional on-going relationships within a multi-generational, multi-ethnic community for spiritual, social and cultural change.

Jesus’ Church is God’s family with many members, a Body of many parts, each part having its own role and function in bringing renewal and life.

Galatians 6:10 – “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

Romans 12:3-5 – “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

Discipleship

We are committed to making disciple-making disciples by seeing people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus and building them up in their faith so that they learn the Gospel and then live the Gospel in every sphere of their life.

Acts 1:8 – You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Church Planting

We are committed to being a church that plants churches. The churches we plant will include, but not be limited to San Diego neighborhoods.

The gospel energizes the planting of new churches.  As the gospel spreads, lives are renewed and gathered into new churches.  We aim to plant churches with the same gospel-based values in multiple neighborhoods and people groups of the city.

Church planting continues to be one of the most effective ways to reach people with the Gospel.
